Attention WPA Member

It has been a concern of mine that PoolComps.com has been a long time developing, and I have always appreciated the patience that you’ve afforded to me. I can assure you there is nobody who’s wanted this venture to materialize more than me, and sooner rather than later. There have been a number of times when I thought we were ready to go, but just when we prepared to announce our start, another glitch would appear and our efforts were delayed again.

That is now history and as you have probably heard, we finally became operational last weekend when we conducted our inaugural US $10,000 event. From a technical point of view, the tournament itself went off like clockwork with no report of any incidents. We would have liked more players, but we recognize this is a new project still in its infancy and until more people become aware of our existence, progression will be steady rather than rapid. With your help we anticipate we won’t have to wait too long before seeing some significant increases in membership.

We believe PoolComps.com, in partnership with the WPA and WCBS, have devised a concept that will generate enough funds which will ultimately help promote billiards sports across the globe. Every WPA member country stands to benefit from this venture and all we are asking for is a bit of your support, time and effort. The rewards can be fantastic for everyone.

Our commitment was to develop a game that would give the same rewards as those found on real-life tables. This has required countless hours of input from a very dedicated team. Their efforts have been justly rewarded by many with extremely flattering comments of praise.

Our concept is a format which will allow online pool tournaments which will be completed in 3 or 4 days, regardless of the number of players. To compliment this unique format, we have developed a game for online play which is second to none. Playing online with us allows the player to execute every shot possible on a real-life table with the exception of masse and jump shots.

As I said earlier, we have commenced our venture by hosting a $10,000 tournament, and these will continue to be conducted weekly. The prize money itself is broken down to 256 places, with the winner receiving $2,000 and the last place getters receiving $8.

There is no entry fee for premium players, only a monthly membership subscription of $7.50. This equates to less than $2.00 per week. There is also no minimum time limit in which someone must subscribe for membership, just month by month. It is also possible for anyone to have multiple memberships to give themselves extra chances.

As our membership grows, so will the prize pools and the frequency of our tournaments, as well as the benefits to the WPA/WCBS and those memberships associated to them. Most likely our first change will be to increase the number of events to 2 per week, played simultaneously, but 12 hours apart. This is to satisfy global membership where we have to consider respective time zones.

Perhaps the most outstanding feature of our unique format is the ability to have a flexible time period that allows players adequate time to complete their matches. This means that after the announced starting time, regardless of where anyone lives, players have a 20 hour period to play their match, and can even enter the event within that 20 hour grace period.

Here is an example of how the tournament format works. (Obviously the player must keep winning to retain their spot in the tournament. Once beaten, they are out of the event)

Day 1

Players have a 20 hour period to register and play the required number of matches for that day.

Once the player clicks the “play now” button, a table will appear on screen. Somebody may already be waiting at the table, or the player will have to wait until an opponent comes along. If an opponent doesn’t arrive within ten minutes, then the player automatically wins that match.

Where a player is required to play 3 matches on Day 1, they can choose when they want to start, and can decide to play one match after the other, or perhaps play one, have a break and come back later and play again. They make the decision of when they want to play, the only requirement is that their matches are completed within the 20 hour period. This is their responsibility. Failure to do so will see them eliminated from the tournament.

Day 2

The same process applies.

Day 3

The same process applies again, except the player may be required to play either one more, or one less match, depending upon the number of players competing.

On the Final day we will have reduced the field to somewhere between 256 and 513, regardless of the number of entries. Then according to a draw, the tournament is finished off in the same fashion as any other tournament.

With this number of people remaining, that will leave 9 rounds to be completed on finals day. Each round is allocated 75 minutes.

Any match not finished within the prescribed time (which may never happen) will be decided by the player with most frames won; if that score is even – the number of balls pocketed during that match; and if that is still even; then the player who is in play at the table when the match clock stops. These decisions are all determined by the computer program.

Matches will finish much faster than they would if played on a real life table, and all play is subject to a shot clock that allows 40 seconds for each shot.

To demonstrate how the elimination system works, I have prepared an example for you.

10,000 players

Day 1              2 matches required               players remaining =   2,500

Day 2              2 matches required               players remaining =      625

Day 3              1 match required                   players remaining =      311

Final Day        Fixed draw with some byes

40,000 players

Day 1              2 matches required               players remaining = 10,000

Day 2              3 matches required               players remaining =   2,500

Day 3              3 matches required               players remaining =      311

Final Day        Fixed draw with some byes

Even if we had to accommodate 1,000,000 players or even more, the tournament can still be conducted within four days, with not many matches per day.

1,000,000 players

Day 1              4 matches required               players remaining = 62,500

Day 2              4 matches required               players remaining =   3,907

Day 3              3 matches required               players remaining =      489

Final Day        Fixed draw with some byes

So you can see from the above, it really doesn’t matter how many players enter, our system can handle it comfortably.

Besides the tournaments, there are other features offered on our website including practice tables for players wanting to hone their skills and coaching tips from some of the world’s leading players.

As you can realize by only the prize money being offered, we require a good number of members just to cover costs. Like any business, we have overheads. These are not limited to only covering prize money, but also include the ongoing maintenance of the site, administration, banking facilities; the list goes on and on.

In order for us to succeed, we need to spread our awareness and this is where we require your help. We need as many people as possible to become aware of our site, the more people who see it, increases the chances for membership growth.

Of course we don’t expect people to do this out of the goodness of their heart which is why we have created an incentive for those who choose to help out and this where you can benefit.

PoolComps is prepared to donate one dollar ($1) from every subscription that comes from a country to the national member that is recognized by the WPA. This dollar per member is paid monthly, not just a once-off. Where the efforts are shared between one or more groups, then the distribution of commissions will also be shared. In such a case, this sharing is to be determined by the WPA’s continental member.

We are able to determine which country each member comes from through a sophisticated tracking device which we have installed within our system. It tells us how many people from whatever country hit our site, or from the website they were referred to us from.

Most of the WPA organizations throughout the world have an email address for their members, and all we are asking you to do is simply send an email message to those addresses recommending they pay our site a visit as that it may offer them something of interest. Hopefully they will listen to your recommendation. In doing so they can see first hand what we have to offer, and they will make their own decision on whether or not they wish to become a member.

We ask you also to place our banner on your website, and in return we will link your site to ours. If there is any cost for bandwidth in displaying our banner, we will meet that cost. It is very important if you have our banner, you inform us by email in order that we can maintain the announcements of upcoming events and facilities on our site. We can change these announcements from our end, there is no work for you to do at all.

So you can see, with not such a lot of effort, you are probably in a great position to pass our message onto many people, and it is not difficult to imagine how many members may possibly join from your country. Remember, it is the number of people from the country who join up that determines the number of dollars that are commissioned, not the number of members from an organization only. From countries with large populations, it is not hard to understand the potential number of members that could be generated, and for your effort you will receive one dollar for every member, every month.

Our mission from profits earned is not based only on a dividend return to our shareholders, but to re-invest back into the sport. We have thought of many areas where significant funding is required, and this includes the development of young grass root players; injection of funds to raise prize money and profile of existing events internationally; create new events; etc etc etc. One thing is for sure, as we grow, you can expect regular announcements of other activities and our extended involvement within the sport.

These are not idle threats; we have already shown our desire to participate in helping out. Our support within the sport has been significant for quite some time. We have supported events of different disciplines, players, junior development initiatives, including being the major sponsor of the WPA World Juniors 9-Ball Championship being held in Sydney next week. We are also a major sponsor of next year’s Euro Tour events. So far we have given over $400,000 to various activities. Not bad for a company that has only just held its first event.

We know we will succeed, the game and concept we have developed has great appeal for all types of people from any age group. It will appeal to pool players of all level skills, video/online gamesters, people that are handicapped, male or female, from children to grandparents.

I thank you for taking the time to read my message; I know it may seem a bit long-winded and I do apologize for the amount of reading it came to, but I wanted to try and explain everything clearly and simply so that anyone could understand fully what we are about, what our goals are and what benefits you can receive by giving some assistance to our venture. If you have any questions, or something you don’t fully understand, please contact Steve steve@poolcomps.com at any time.

Sincerely

Peter Worth
